Adam and I started our Whole30 on January 2nd, just in time to enjoy our traditional New Years Day Brunch and finish our 30days in time for the Superbowl. And after the binge that was Thanksgiving to Christmas, the timing was perfect. I think it is really important for me to be upfront and clear that I am not doing a Whole30 so I can tell people about it and I don’t really want to proselytize. My goals are to decrease inflammation, improve my immune system and recovery time and to increase my endurance. I am doing a Whole30 to give me a framework and structure to make it more straightforward to reach my goals.
I really don’t want my “special” good choices to be the main topic of conversations and I understand that just because this works for me, doesn’t mean that it works for everyone. With that being said, it does not make this kind of change “easy” for me. I have been making short posts each day for myself and rereading my week+ of posts today has been a good reminder that I have still struggled. We took naps for the first two days, I have been bonky on runs, had cravings for off plan foods and been tempted by coworkers, but today- my day 9, I am starting to get some drops of tiger’s blood. The good parts of my Whole30 Week 1- I haven’t been hungry, I have been sleeping better which means waking up without feeling groggy (win!) and my GI system has generally been calm and unbloated (double win!). Today has been a good day, I went for an awesome, snowy and cold run with Keith, Mario and Kathleen in Patapsco Valley State Park and just enjoyed running in the woods while having amazing (and consistent) energy throughout the whole run. Came home and started cleaning out our storage unit. It is such a great feeling to know that I am getting rid of a lot of “junk” in my life! I would call that a Whole30 Week 1 success!
